Background

PurinaCare is a subsidiary of Nestlé Purina PetCare Company and was launched in 2008. They offer simple and comprehensive plans with a range of deductibles for you to choose from to fit your lifestyle.  They offer pet insurance to all dogs and cats without any age limitation.

Dog and Cat Insurance Plans

PurinaCare offers three simple plans for both cats and dogs. All PurinaCare plans cover pets up to a limit of $20,000 annually and there is no lifetime limit.

PurinaCare plus Preventative Care

This is PurinaCare’s primary plan. It offers complete coverage including routine care, accident care, and illness care. Here is a list of its coverage:

These services are available only when associated with a qualifying eligible accident or injury. No illnesses.

What PurinaCare Doesn’t Cover

Here is a list of exclusions for PurinaCare plans

  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Breeding, fertility, and pregnancy
  • Alternative care — unless prescribed and performed by a licensed veterinarian in a clinical setting
  • Cosmetic and elective procedures
  • Training
  • All pet foods for any reason
  • All nutritional supplements, vitamins, holistic medications, herbs, and natural remedies for any reason
  • Grooming, bathing for any reason
  • Boarding
  • Preventable conditions are excluded unless you provide preventive care according to your veterinarian’s recommendation
  • Accidents or injuries intentionally inflicted or intentionally caused by the policyholder
  • Dogs and cats under 8 weeks of age

Dog and Cat Pet Insurance Rates

Because rates are variable and determined by the specific breed and age of your pet, for comparison purposes, we’ve listed a test sample quote for monthly premiums of plans covering a 2-year-old, 5-year-old, and 8-year-old golden retriever as of June 2011. These policies assume a $100 deductible for accident only and $250 deductible for PurinaCare without Preventative Care and PurinaCare with Preventative Care and 20 percent coinsurance for all plans.

I am getting a dog that will be about 8 weeks old...... a female, if a male is cheaper i can get a male .right now i am trying to see if i can afford this pet...i would love a small dog...less then20#.
please advise me on coverage.
